Ocala Electric Utility appoints new director

The City of Ocala has announced that Doug Peebles is the new director for Ocala Electric Utility.

Peebles served as the deputy director for OEU since May of 2021, and he accepted the role of director in January of 2022. He now oversees the entire OEU department which includes transmission and distribution, construction, automated meter infrastructure operations, public education and outreach, resource management, substations, engineering, system operations, and power compliance.

Over the past 21 years, Peebles has worked in the utility industry. His previous roles include transmissions and distribution, revenue metering, and automated metering infrastructure. As the deputy director for OEU, he was responsible for the following divisions: engineering, resource management, automated metering infrastructure operations, system control center, and substation/relay.

Peebles graduated from Ocala’s apprenticeship program as an FDOE state certified meter technician. He is also a graduate of Leadership Ocala/Marion (LOM), class XXVIII.

Peebles is an active participant in the city and surrounding community. He currently serves on the LOM and Leadership Ocala/Marion Youth Board of Regents, he has chaired Ocala’s Apprenticeship Committee for numerous years, and he currently serves as chairman for the city’s General Pension Board.
