A driver was extricated by firefighters on Monday afternoon following a two-vehicle collision that occurred near an intersection in Ocala.
On Monday, shortly before 3:35 p.m., Ocala Fire Rescue units consisting of Engine 4, Rescue 4, Tower 1, Battalion Chiefs 11 and 22, and a Safety Officer were dispatched to the intersection of SW College Road and SW 27th Avenue due to reports of a vehicle accident with rollover.
Upon arrival, firefighters observed a red compact SUV on its roof, and the vehicle was blocking both southbound lanes of SW 27th Avenue. The second vehicle involved in the accident, a silver sedan, was parked at a nearby establishment, according to OFR.
OFR stated that the occupants of the sedan were ambulatory, and the driver of the SUV was trapped.
While firefighters stabilized the SUV and prepared for extrication, medics assessed the condition of the driver. Firefighters proceeded to use hydraulic tools to remove both doors on the driver’s side of the SUV to gain access to the driver.
After being removed from the SUV, the driver was transported to a local hospital for evaluation. OFR stated that no other injuries were reported.
The Ocala Police Department and Marion County Fire Rescue also responded to the scene of the accident.
