A dog was saved by Ocala firefighters on Friday afternoon after a fire ignited inside a residence on SW 17th Circle.
On Friday, shortly after 2:40 p.m., Ocala Fire Rescue units consisting of Engines 1, 3, and 4, Rescue 4, Tower 1, Battalion Chief 11, and a Safety Officer were dispatched to the 2800 block of SW 17th Circle due to reports of a residential structure fire.
Upon arrival, Engine 4’s crew members observed fire and smoke inside a single-story home. According to OFR, the flames and smoke were visible through a front window.
OFR stated that no one appeared to be home at the time of the fire.
Engine 4’s crew members stretched a hose line to the porch to attack the flames, and the fire was knocked down from the outside. Crews then proceeded to enter the home through the front door.
Rescue 4’s crew members began a primary search of the residence while Engine 4’s crews attacked the fire. Engine 1’s crews were divided to assist with the search and fire suppression, according to OFR.
Within minutes, firefighters had the flames under control, and the fire was confined to the room of origin – the living room.
Once the fire was fully extinguished, a secondary search of the home’s interior was conducted. During this search, firefighters located an uninjured dog that was hiding underneath a bed, and the dog was safely brought outside.
According to OFR, no injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is unknown.
The Ocala Police Department and Marion County Fire Rescue also responded to the residence.
