Ocala driver hits and kills pedestrian in Pasco County

A motorist from Ocala struck and killed a pedestrian in Pasco County early Monday morning.

Shortly after 2:55 a.m., a sedan was traveling northbound in the center lane of U.S. Highway 19, just north of Sunray Boulevard. The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was identified in the Florida Highway Patrol incident report as a 62-year-old Ocala man.

At the same time, a 20-year-old Holiday man was walking in the area. FHP stated that the pedestrian proceeded to step directly into the path of the sedan, and he was struck by the vehicle.

The pedestrian sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash. The driver of the sedan was not injured.

The names of the driver and pedestrian were not released by the Florida Highway Patrol.
