Married couple’s artwork to be on display in joint exhibits at Mary Sue Rich Community Center

Artwork from a married couple will soon be on display in side-by-side exhibitions at the Mary Sue Rich Community Center at Reed Place in Ocala.

The exhibits, Bold and Inspired: Native American Regalia by Diana Lee and Abstract Island Expressions by William Lee, will be on display beginning on Thursday, June 22, 2023, through Thursday, January 4, 2024, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Mary Sue Rich Community Center (1821 NW 21st Avenue).

Both exhibits are free and open to the public. Bold and Inspired will be displayed on the community center’s first floor, and Abstract Island Expressions will be located on the second floor. According to the City of Ocala, the two exhibits have a distinctive style and theme reflecting both artists and their different approaches.

Diana Lee recently became a resident of Ocala. She received her Doctor of Psychology in Neuropsychology and had a successful career working for the Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences Department at the University of Miami.

Since retiring from the University of Miami, Diana has focused on her art. Her colorful acrylic paintings are inspired by her Cherokee ancestry and experiences visiting Native American sites in Kentucky as well as her participation in the Junkanoo Parades in the Bahamas.

William Lee was born in Nassau, Bahamas. He received an Associate Degree in Fine Arts and an Associate Degree in Photography from Miami Dade College. While he has always been artistically inclined, William only recently returned to creating art.

William’s artwork has been exhibited in New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Budapest, and the Bahamas. In Abstract Island Expressions, his abstract expressionist paintings revisit his childhood, which was spent in Nassau.
