Marion County Sheriff Billy Woods is asking for the public’s help to locate a 20-year-old man who allegedly broke into a local residence a few weeks ago and stole multiple firearms.
During his regular “Wanted by Woods Wednesday” segment on Facebook, Sheriff Woods asked for assistance with finding Sammy Welcome, Jr. He is wanted for armed burglary of a conveyance, four counts of grand theft of a firearm, and one count each of grand theft and criminal mischief.
According to Sheriff Woods, Welcome and another individual, identified as 18-year-old Wendell Lamar Wright, broke the security cameras around the victim’s home and kicked in the front door. Once inside the residence, Welcome and Wright allegedly stole four firearms, a watch, and a safe containing ammunition and cash.
“Now Sammy, I already have your buddy Wendell in my jail, and we will arrest you next,” stated Sheriff Woods. “So, do yourself a favor and turn yourself in.”
If you have any information on Welcome’s whereabouts, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office asks that you call Crime Stoppers of Marion County at 352-368-STOP (7867) and reference 23-37 in your tip. If you use Crime Stoppers and your tip leads to an arrest, you could be eligible for a cash reward.
