Ocala police captain recognized for 20-year milestone

Earlier this week, an Ocala Police Department captain was recognized by city council members for his 20 years of service to the department and the City of Ocala.

During the Ocala City Council meeting that was held on Tuesday, June 20, OPD captain Dustin Keuntjes was acknowledged for serving and protecting the local community over the past two decades.

Originally from Green Bay Wisconsin, Keuntjes attended the College of Central Florida’s Law Enforcement Academy shortly after he moved to Ocala in 2001.

OPD stated that Keuntjes has built an impressive career serving in various divisions including the special deployment unit, K-9 unit, drug unit, SWAT team, and patrol, as well as a Drug Enforcement Administration task force officer. He eventually was promoted to sergeant and then took on the role of SWAT team leader.

In 2019, Keuntjes was promoted to lieutenant and assumed the role of watch commander in the patrol division. In that role, he oversaw a squad of officers and sergeants while ensuring the smooth daily operations of the division. Additionally, he assumed the position of SWAT commander, which saw him lead his team through high-pressure and critical situations.

Keuntjes was promoted to the rank of captain in 2020, and he was appointed to oversee all patrol operations within the east district. In this current role, he not only works to promote a safe and secure environment for the local community, but he also helps to ensure the smooth execution of various community events from a law enforcement standpoint.

In addition to his police work, Keuntjes serves on several community boards and is actively involved in his children’s sports activities.

“Captain Keuntjes is a valued leader within the Ocala Police Department,” stated OPD on its Facebook page. “His experience, leadership skills, and commitment to serving the community make him a true asset to the department and the people of Ocala.”
