Marion hosting cleanup event at Coehadjoe Park, Carney Island

(Update: Due to inclement weather, the Marion County Parks and Recreation Department has cancelled the park cleanup events that were scheduled on Thursday, July 13.)

The Marion County Parks and Recreation Department, in partnership with Marion County Solid Waste, is inviting members of the community to take part in a park cleanup event on Thursday, July 13.

The event will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the following locations:

  • Coehadjoe Park (4225 NE 35th Street in Ocala).
  • Carney Island Park (13275 SE 115th Avenue in Ocklawaha).

No registration is required, and participants can choose to join the cleanup at either park. All necessary cleanup materials will be provided courtesy of Marion County Solid Waste, while supplies last.

“Join us as we strive to keep Marion beautiful,” stated the parks and recreation department in a social media post.

The month of July is recognized as Park and Recreation Month. This year’s theme – “Where Community Grows” – celebrates the vital role that park and recreation professionals play in bringing people together, providing essential services, and fostering the growth of local communities.

According to the Marion County Parks and Recreation Department, everyone who participates in a Parks and Recreation Month program, such as this Thursday’s community park cleanup, will have a chance to win an “exciting prize.”
