Elderly man killed in two-vehicle crash at Marion intersection

An 83-year-old man from Ocala was killed on Tuesday afternoon after a tractor-trailer crashed into his pickup truck at an intersection in Marion County.

At around 1:15 p.m., the man was traveling eastbound in a pickup truck on County Road 318, and a flatbed tractor-trailer was heading northbound on U.S. 301. Both vehicles were near the intersection of County Road 318 and U.S. 301, according to the Florida Highway Patrol incident report.

FHP stated that the pickup truck entered the intersection and traveled directly into the path of the tractor-trailer. The front section of the tractor-trailer proceeded to strike the left side of the pickup truck.

The driver of the pickup truck sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene by Marion County Fire Rescue personnel. The tractor-trailer’s driver, identified in the report as a 42-year-old man from Benson, North Carolina, was not injured.

The northbound and southbound lanes of U.S. 301 were closed due to an investigation into the fatal crash.

The names of the drivers involved in the accident were not released by the Florida Highway Patrol.
