Supply issues delay construction on NE Watula Avenue, road closure to begin next week

The City of Ocala, with assistance from Miller Pipeline, will soon begin the installation of a six-inch water and fire main on NE Watula Avenue, and motorists can expect a temporary road closure beginning next week.

The water and fire main will be installed at 235 NE Watula Avenue, and the construction will cause the nearby intersections of NE 2nd Street and NE 3rd Street to be closed beginning on Wednesday, December 6 through Thursday, December 14.

The affected intersections will reopen on Friday, December 15.

According to the city, this construction project was originally set to begin on November 20 before being delayed one week. In a press release on Thursday, November 30, the city stated that the project’s timeline “has been extended” through December 15 due to “supply issues.”

All necessary devices will be in place to redirect traffic. Construction will take place Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. During construction times, travelers may experience delays, noise, dust, and heavy equipment within the project area.

Here are the detour routes that will be in effect:

  • Motorists heading southbound on NE Watula Avenue will turn left onto NE 3rd Street, right onto NE Tuscawilla Avenue, right onto NE 2nd Street, and left back onto NE Watula Avenue.
  • Motorists heading northbound on NE Watula Avenue will turn right onto NE 2nd Street, left onto NE Tuscawilla Avenue, left onto NE 3rd Street, and right back onto NE Watula Avenue.
