One killed, one injured after pickup truck runs stop sign at Marion intersection

A man was killed, and a woman was injured, after their pickup trucks collided at an intersection in Marion County on Friday evening.

At around 7:35 p.m., a 50-year-old man from Dunnellon was traveling westbound in a pickup truck on SW 29th Street, approaching a stop sign at the intersection of U.S. Highway 41, according to the Florida Highway Patrol incident report.

FHP stated that at the same time, a 61-year-old Morriston woman was heading southbound on U.S. Highway 41, near the same intersection, in a pickup truck.

A trooper noted in the report that when the man reached the intersection, he failed to stop for the stop sign, and his pickup truck proceeded to enter the woman’s path of travel. As a result, the front section of the woman’s pickup truck crashed into the left side of the man’s vehicle.

The man sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene by Marion County Fire Rescue personnel.

The report stated that the woman sustained “non-incapacitating” injuries in the crash.

Both drivers were the sole occupants of their respective vehicles. Their names were not released by the Florida Highway Patrol.
