Marion man throws elderly woman to ground, slams her head into vehicle during argument, deputies say

A 65-year-old Fort McCoy man is behind bars after an elderly woman accused him of throwing her to the ground and repeatedly slamming her head into the frame of a vehicle during an argument that turned physical.

On Thursday, a Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to a residence located on NE 192nd Lane in Fort McCoy in reference to a battery incident. Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with the female victim who was “visibly upset and crying,” according to the arrest report.

The victim advised that she had gotten into an argument with a man, identified in the report as Ronald Wayne Egelston, inside the home. She told the deputy that the argument continued outside as the victim approached a vehicle in an attempt to find her phone.

As the victim searched around the interior of the vehicle near the passenger seat, she stated that Egelston stood near the driver’s side. She then advised that Egelston suddenly approached her “aggressively” and slammed her to the ground, according to the report.

The victim alleged in her statement that Egelston slammed her head against the vehicle’s frame multiple times as she screamed for help. The deputy noted in the report that the victim’s head “appeared to be red in some areas,” and swelling was observed on the left side of her head, which was consistent with her statement.

An eyewitness told the deputy that they saw Egelston throw the victim onto the ground during the incident. The eyewitness then called 911 after hearing the victim scream for help. The report stated that due to the position of the vehicle, the eyewitness only saw the victim being thrown to the ground; they did not see Egelston allegedly slam the victim’s head into the vehicle.

In the report, the deputy noted that Egelston appeared to have used the vehicle’s frame “in a manner that could likely cause death or great bodily harm by directly impacting the elderly victim’s head on the hard surface.”

At around 7:45 p.m. on Thursday evening, the deputy spotted Egelston’s vehicle on an unspecified road and conducted a traffic stop. Egelston was placed under arrest and transported to Marion County Jail, where he is currently being held without bond.

Egelston is being charged with aggravated battery on a person 65 years of age or older. A court date has not been scheduled yet, according to jail records.
