Marion K-9 one round away from being named Florida Sheriff’s Association’s Top Dog

A K-9 officer with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office is once again seeking votes to win his matchup and advance to the final round of the Florida Sheriff’s Association’s Top Dog competition.

Rex is one of the final four dogs competing in this year’s K-9 March Madness. He is currently trailing in his matchup with Laura of the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

This round ends in just over a day at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9. To make the next round, Rex will need to overcome a large deficit.

As of Monday morning, Rex is trailing his opponent, Laura, by a substantial margin. Laura, who works as a K-9 officer for the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office, currently holds a nearly 3-to-2 advantage, with over 12,000 votes to Rex’s 8,300.

This is not the first time Rex has had to overcome a deficit to advance into the next round.

Although the officer previously won his first three rounds of the competition, his matchup in the round of 8 with K-9 Tank from the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office went down to the last few seconds.
