A new Mattress Firm and a rapidly-growing automotive chain are the latest additions taking shape at a shopping plaza in southwest Ocala that is anchored by Sprouts Farmers Market.

The new businesses are joining the Corta Commons plaza, located in the 8400 block of SW State Road 200, near On Top of the World. They follow a wave of recent openings at the site, including the city’s first Sprouts, which debuted last summer.

Mattress Firm will occupy a space within the main retail center. Currently, there are over 2,400 Mattress Firm locations in the United States, and at least 237 stores across the state of Florida. In Ocala, there are two other locations along SW College Road.

In addition to the mattress store, Mavis Tires & Brakes is constructing a new location adjacent to Corta Commons, between the main plaza development and a neighboring gas station.

As of last year, there were over 3,500 owned and franchised Mavis Tires & Brakes locations across North America, with the highest concentration in Florida (334).

Although the location will mark the first Mavis Tires & Brakes in Ocala, between that brand and sister brand Tire Kingdom, the companies have approximately five locations in Marion County.

In Ocala, the new Mavis will be situated just southwest of two other Tire Kingdom locations along SW College Road.

The arrival of the new retailers at Corta Commons continues the transformation of the corridor, which has seen significant commercial activity over the past year.

Sprouts Farmers Market officially opened its first location in Ocala at 8430 SW Highway 200 on July 11, drawing thousands of customers to its grand opening.

That launch was quickly followed by the opening of a new Chipotle Mexican Grill next door just days later.

Most recently, a Tropical Smoothie Cafe opened at the plaza in mid-December. That location was sold just days before its opening for $2.5 million.

Big Lots closed its location nearby before returning across the street to Friendship Plaza, replacing the shuttered Roses.

In 2024, Wawa opened one of its many locations at a site that is next door to Corta Commons. Later that year, local officials approved the plaza site for commercial and residential development, with plans calling for multi-family townhomes in addition to the retail space.
