Ocala man sought on warrant jailed after chase from McDonald’s restaurant

Angel Luis Almeida

An Ocala man who bolted from a fast-food restaurant when he saw a Marion County sheriff’s detective was arrested Thursday after a half-mile chase.

Angel Luis Almeda, 18, was being sought on an active juvenile custody warrant for “absconding supervision.” He was at the McDonald’s restaurant at 7562 SE Maricamp Road when he saw the detective and ran through the parking lot of the Heather Island Plaza, a sheriff’s office report states.

The detective and a deputy chased Almeda and eventually took him into custody about a half a mile from the McDonald’s restaurant, the report says.

Almeda, who lives at 6171 NW Hwy. 225A, was transported to the Marion County Jail and charged with 15 crimes:

Resisting an officer without violence;
Eight counts of burglary of an unoccupied vehicle (unarmed);
Two counts of larceny/petit theft;
Three counts of grand theft of a motor vehicle; and
Larceny/grand theft.

Almeda was being held on $51,000 bond and has court appearances scheduled for Dec. 11 and Jan. 11.
