Marion County Sheriff’s Office thanks public in identifying woman who stole $300 in Walmart merchandise

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office is thanking the public for its help in identifying a woman who stole nearly $300 in merchandise from a local Walmart.

On July 23, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office posted photos of a woman wanted in connection with a theft at the Walmart in southwest Ocala (9570 SW State Road 200).

The woman, who was later identified as 59-year-old Lana Lucas, was seen filling Dollar General grocery bags with several items including craft jewelry, kits for soap making, cold medicine, and fireworks.

Lucas allegedly passed all points of sale and exited the store with the items before she was stopped by a member of Walmart’s asset protection team, who asked Lucas to produce a receipt.

Lucas claimed she was never given a receipt, and when asked to return to the register, she indicated she would after retrieving something from her vehicle. Lucas never reentered the store and left in a white vehicle.

On Monday, a deputy with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office took Lucas into custody. “Thank you for sharing!” reads a Facebook post from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
