Marion County officials working on Safety Action Plan to improve transportation, street safety

The Ocala/Marion Transportation Planning Organization is planning to invest in the development of a Safety Action Plan to serve as a resource to improving transportation safety throughout Marion County.

The plan and its proposed timeline will be shared with the Ocala/Marion TPO Board during its regular meeting on Tuesday, August 24.

The development of the plan is a “collaborative process involving citizens and stakeholders, private and public partners, and state agencies,” according to the TPO.

The county says the proposed name of the action plan is “Commitment to Zero: An Action Plan for Safer Streets in Ocala/Marion.”

“The purpose of ‘Commitment to Zero’ is to bring together the Ocala/Marion community to collaborate in the development of an Action Plan to improve safety on our transportation system,” reads county records.

The plan will provide for education and awareness, public and partner engagement, safety analysis, and action planning stages.

During the upcoming meeting, TPO staff will seek the board’s input on, among other items, a strategy for partner engagement.

A scope of work summary presentation will be provided to the TPO Board for review and approval at Tuesday’s meeting, as well as again in October.

The Ocala/Marion Transportation Planning Organization will next meet on Tuesday, August 24 at 4 p.m. at the Marion County Commission Auditorium located at 601 SE 25th Avenue.
