Thigh-choking, chewed-apple-spitting man arrested after violent altercation

Kenneth Lee Forbes

A man who attempted to choke a woman using his thighs and spit chewed apple pieces at her during a fight over cigarette use was arrested Thursday by Marion County Sheriff’s deputies.

Kenneth Lee Forbes, 18, of Anthony, was taken into custody at his home in the 9300 block of NE 16th Terrace after he was located by deputies who were investigating a confrontation that took place earlier this month.

When deputies arrived at Forbes’ home Thursday morning, he admitted to the earlier violent altercation with the woman because she “did not honor her part of the bargain to quit smoking.”

When deputies were called to the house May 20, the woman told them that Forbes had become “belligerent” and started yelling at her after she grabbed a pack of cigarettes when leaving the house. The woman said she went outside to get the mail and after coming back into the house, stood in the doorway of Forbes’ bedroom and asked him, “What’s wrong with you?”

The woman said Forbes, who was lying on his bed eating an apple, sat up, threw the piece of fruit at her and started yelling. She said she went to his bed frame and he spit chewed apple pieces at her, which struck her in the breast area.

The report states that the two began “tussling” on the bed before Forbes placed his legs around the woman’s neck in an attempt to choke her with his thighs. The woman said Forbes released his grip when she bit his thigh, allowing her to run out of the room and call 911 on her cell phone.

The woman said Forbes grabbed his pocket knife and earphones, followed her outside and then left the residence on an ATV “in an attempt to avoid law enforcement.”

Thursday, Forbes told a deputy the confrontation broke out because the woman hadn’t followed through on a promise to quit smoking. Forbes said he grabbed an apple in his room but denied throwing the piece of fruit at her. He admitted to spitting at the woman and confirmed being bitten while attempting to choke her with his thighs.

Forbes was arrested and transported to the Marion County Jail. During the trip, he apologized to the deputy several times and said the incident “will be an eye-opener for him.”

Forbes was charged with domestic battery and is being held on $500 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court June 27 at 1 p.m.
