A Belleview man was arrested Monday afternoon following the death of a woman who was injured in a head-on crash in Marion County a little more than a year ago.
Joseph Randall Payne, 22, was taken into custody and transported to the Marion County Jail in connection with the crash, which took place on the afternoon of Nov. 3, 2017 on State Road 40 near SW 140th Avenue.
Payne had been driving east in a 1999 Nissan Altima that crossed over the center-lane divider and collided with a 2017 Toyota 86 driven by 56-year-old Vicki Kay Belcher of Dunnellon, a Florida Highway Patrol report says.
Belcher was airlifted from the crash scene by ShandsCair to Ocala Regional Medical Center, where she later died of her injuries. Payne also was transported to Ocala Regional Medical Center with serious injuries, the report says.
Payne was charged with four driving under the influence charges, including negligent vehicular manslaughter and property damage. He is being held on $33,000 bond.
