Father seeks charges against boy who punched his daughter at Belleview High School

The father of a girl who was punched in the face came to Belleview High School on Monday to speak to the school’s resource officer about the incident.

The resource officer, who is a Marion County sheriff’s deputy, met with the man at the school, located at 10400 SE 36th Ave. The incident the girl’s father was upset about took place Nov. 16 and he wanted to pursue charges against the boy involved, a sheriff’s office report states.

The father of a girl who was punched by a male student during a recent lunch period at Belleview High School met with a Marion County sheriff’s deputy about pressing charges.

The girl told her father that the boy had been threatening to hit her and “had been harassing her.” She said he became more aggressive toward her while they were eating lunch and she attempted to push him away, the report says.

The girl also told her father that the boy stood up and “punched” her in the face. She said she then “went after” him and he “adopted an aggressive posture” and shoved her into a table. The two were then separated and taken to the office, where both were suspended for their actions, the report says.

The deputy also watched the incident on video surveillance. He said the boy and girl were eating lunch, side by side, at the end of a table and it appeared as if they were talking to each other.

The girl then pushes the boy away and he then stands up and delivers a “blow” to the girl’s face, the report says, adding that her “reaction was to stand and fight, which she did.”

No one was injured during the fight, but the boy’s mother was called and notified of the pending criminal action, the report says.
