Strip search reveals Oxycodone on visitor to women’s prison

Anita Curry

A female visitor to the Lowell Annex Correctional Facility was arrested after an Oxycodone pill fell onto the floor during a strip search.

Prison officials had received information that Anita Curry, 56, of Lake Wales, was bringing narcotics into the correctional facility and patted her down when she arrived Sunday. The female officer conducting the pat down noticed a hard item in the crotch area that “didn’t feel right,” and then conducted wand and strip searches. During the strip search, a small blue circular pill fell onto the floor. The pill was later determined to be Oxycodone.

Before taking Curry to the Marion County Jail, a Marion County sheriff’s deputy asked her if she had anything else illegal in her possession and she replied no. The deputy requested another pat down, and an unknown object was felt on her left arm that turned out to be a Fentanyl patch.

Curry refused to talk at the jail and requested a lawyer. The deputy contacted a hospice in Lakeland, where a medical staff member said Curry has a tracheostomy and is prescribed Roxicodone and is instructed to take it every two hours for pain.

Curry was charged with smuggling contraband into a detention facility. Based on her medical condition and the medications prescribed to her, she was released on her own recognizance without a court date set.
