Cheek-biting Ocala man jailed on domestic battery charge after nasty spat

Tyler J. Mard

An Ocala man was arrested late Sunday night after being accused of pushing, biting and smothering a woman during a domestic dispute.

Tyler J. Mard, 22, was charged with domestic battery after the incident, which happened at the home he shares with the victim on NE 57th Avenue.

The victim told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy she and Mard were arguing in the bedroom when he pushed her on the bed and got on top of her. She said she told Mard to stop multiple times and to get off her, and he then tried to place his hand over her mouth. The victim said she couldn’t breathe at one point before Mard removed his hand, a sheriff’s office report states.

The victim said Mard then placed both of his knees on each side of her head, causing an injury to her left ear due to the earrings she was wearing. She said while Mard was on top of her, he also bit her left cheek. She said she was able to get Mard off her and stand up, but he pushed her into a closet, causing scratches on her lower back. The deputy observed an injury with teeth marks on the victim’s left cheek and a visible tear on her left ear hole, the report says.

Contacted at his mother’s house on Redwood Track Radial, Mard admitted to arguing with the victim but said he didn’t put his hands on her. He couldn’t explain how she sustained her visible injuries.

Mard was taken to the Marion County Jail, where he was released early Tuesday on $15,000 bond. He’s due to appear in Marion County Court on April 10.
