Crews from Ocala Fire Rescue scrambled to battle a large grass fire that was threatening several structures Monday afternoon.
The blaze, in the 2000 block of SW 14 St., was reported at 1:03 p.m. Crews from Engines 3, 4 and 7 responded, as did Rescue 4, Tower 1 and Battalion Chief 22. When they arrived, the found a large column of smoke and flames roaring behind a home, a report says.
Engine crews quickly attacked the fire with two hose lines while medics assessed affected residents for smoke inhalation. And although the flames claimed a shed and miscellaneous items in the backyard, the main property wasn’t affected.
Firefighters used about 1,000 gallons of water to extinguish the blaze and no injuries were reported. The Ocala Police Department, Marion County Sheriff’s Office and Marion County Fire Rescue also responded to the blaze.
