Deputy swings into action after comments about ‘shooting up’ Dunnellon High School

A Marion County school resource officer was called into action last week after a student supposedly made comments about shooting up a local high school.

The resource officer, who is a Marion County Sheriff’s deputy and serves at Dunnellon High School, was told about the comment, which involved a juvenile student.

The resource officer made contact with that student, who said that she did not say she was going to “shoot up the school.” She said she “only hoped someone shoots up or blows up the school,” a sheriff’s office report states.

The resource officer emailed the information about the case to the sheriff’s office Crisis Intervention Unit. And deputies were dispatched to the student’s residence to speak with her mother and to make sure there were no firearms in her house and no access to any weapons, which there was not, the report says.
