Knife-wielding Ocala man blames behavior on being off his medicine

Thomas Raymond Yawn

An Ocala man who claims he was off his medicine was arrested for allegedly threatening a woman with a knife during a domestic altercation.

Thomas Raymond Yawn, 37, of SW 167th Avenue, was charged with aggravated domestic assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill after the incident, which happened Wednesday afternoon at the residence he shares with the victim.

The victim told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy she had come home from work when Yawn demanded to leave. She said when she was ready to call police, Yawn picked up a knife and held it in her direction, according to the arrest report.

The victim said she immediately put her hands up and asked Yawn if the knife was for her, and he said it was for law enforcement if they were to show up. When asked if she felt threatened for her life, she said yes, according to the report.

Yawn told the deputy he woke up sad and didn’t take his medicine. He said he did pick up the knife, but it was not for the victim but for law enforcement. Yawn said he has a mental illness and didn’t mean what he did. The deputy determined from talking to him that Yawn had a good moral compass and knew right from wrong, the report says.

Yawn was taken to the Marion County Jail, where he’s being held on $2,000 bond. He’s due to appear in Marion County Court on May 28.
