Marion sheriff’s patrol vehicles collide while responding to call for help

Two Marion County sheriff’s deputies were transported to a local hospital early Monday morning after their marked patrol vehicles collided while responding to a call.

The vehicles were driven by 24-year-old Dep. James Burgess and 25-year-old Dep. David Hogan. The crash took place on County Road 464C just south of SE 113th Street Rd. when the right front of Burgess’ 2016 Ford Explorer hit the left side of Hogan’s 2013 Ford Taurus. The accident happened as the deputies both slowed to turn back onto SE 113 Street Rd., a Florida Highway Patrol report states.

Both deputies were taken to Ocala Regional Medical Center with minor injuries. The FHP report notes that Burgess wasn’t wearing a seatbelt. And the crash remains under investigation.
