Man without a valid license for 25 years charged as habitual offender

Robert Bruce Adams

A Belleview man whose driver’s license has been expired since 1994 was arrested during a traffic stop last week.

Robert Bruce Adams, 53, of 5469 SE 104th Place, was charged last Wednesday with driving with a suspended license and as a habitual offender.

At around 11:20 p.m., a Marion County sheriff’s sergeant saw Adams’ silver Toyota pickup truck driving erratically northbound on the 5800 block of SE Abshier Boulevard. Adams was traveling slower than the speed limit, drifting to the right several times, and kept turning the right turn signal on and off, according to the sheriff’s department report.

Adams then turned into a closed business, drove across the parking lot and turned onto SE 55th Avenue. The sergeant initiated a traffic stop and Adams pulled into a residence on SE 104th Place. When asked for his license, Adams replied that he didn’t have it, according to the report.

A teletype search confirmed Adams’ license has been expired since 1994, and it was suspended for 60 months in 2004. His license hasn’t been reinstated since the suspension, according to the report.

Adams remains in the Marion County Jail on $2,000 bond and will appear in Marion County Court on May 28.
