Ocala man jailed after violent altercation leaves frantic woman with fractured elbow

Jevan Marshae Carlson

An Ocala man is in the Marion County Jail after allegedly strangling a woman and fracturing her elbow during a domestic dispute early Sunday morning.

Jevan Marshae Carlson, 32, of SE Maricamp Road, was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill, domestic battery causing bodily harm, domestic battery by strangulation, and domestic kidnapping and false imprisonment.

A Marion County sheriff’s deputy responded to a disturbance at the Maricamp Road residence and was met in the front yard by Carlson’s mother, who had called 911. As the deputy was getting out of the patrol car, the victim ran towards him screaming for help and to get her away from “him,” according to the sheriff’s office report.

Carlson’s mother told the deputy Carlson was exiting the west door of the residence. Due to Carlson having a knife, the deputy ordered him to get on the ground and he complied. Carlson was placed in handcuffs and placed in the patrol car, according to the report.

The deputy observed the victim, who appeared to be losing consciousness, being held up by an eyewitness. The victim said she could not feel her left arm, which she believed was broken. The victim said Carlson was mad at her for an unknown reason, and that he told her, “you’re not leaving” and called her a derogatory name,” according to the report.

The victim said Carlson allegedly punched her in the face once or twice and kept asking her what she was hiding. Each time the victim replied she wasn’t hiding anything, Carlson punched her. She said she believed she was punched seven or eight times, according to the report.

The victim said Carlson acquired a knife and threatened to stab her with it. He held the knife near her throat and then moved it to where it was pointed directly at her ribs and stated, “I’ll do it.” The victim said Carlson kept asking her what she was hiding and kicked her in the back and side multiple times before dragging her outside by her hair. The victim said Carlson also choked her with his hands, according to the report.

The deputy observed red marks on the victim’s right bicep and left shoulder. Her left elbow was severely swollen and had a small abrasion that was bleeding. The deputy saw the victim’s knees through the rips in her pants and both appeared to have abrasions. Her face was swollen and red, and her neck and throat area appeared to be very red and had a white line where her necklace was against her neck. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital, where the nurse in charge confirmed her elbow was fractured and said she was going to need surgery for it, according to the report.

The eyewitness told the deputy Carlson was aggravated with the victim because he believed she was keeping a secret from him. The witness said she heard Carlson say, “If you don’t tell me, I’m gonna beat your ass.” The witness said she saw Carlson punching the victim, then get a knife. She said she heard the victim say, “I’m begging for my life.” When Carlson dropped the knife, the witness said she picked it up and threw it into a dog kennel in the living room to keep it away from him, according to the report.

The witness said Carlson got another knife and lunged at the victim, at which point he dropped the knife and punched her. The witness said she observed the victim lying on the ground and saw Carlson kicking her multiple times, and she could hear his foot striking her, according to the report.

Carlson’s mother said she was in a different room trying to call 911 while the incident was occurring. She said she could hear the altercation taking place and heard Carlson say, “I’m getting a knife.” She said she could hear someone being struck very hard and the victim saying, “stop” and “I’m scared.” Carlson’s mother said she opened the door and Carlson said, “You want some of this, too,” according to the report.

After being read his Miranda rights, Carlson invoked his right to remain silent. A search of jail records shows numerous arrests, including one for aggravated battery of a pregnant woman in 2016. He remains held in jail on $16,000 bond and will appear in Marion County Court on May 28.
