Ocala man arrested twice in four months for driving with suspended license

Shane Ashton Jones

An Ocala man who was pulled over for having a license tag light out was charged with driving with a suspended license for the second time in four months.

A Marion County sheriff’s deputy and a deputy trainee stopped a beige, four-door Chevy with a Georgia tag on 103rd Street Road on Wednesday night for having an inoperable tag light. The driver, 25-year-old Shane Jones, told the deputies he didn’t have his driver’s license on his person, and a teletype check revealed it was suspended in 2017 for failure to pay financial obligations, according to the sheriff’s office report.

Jones, whose residence is listed as 14 Juniper Loop, told the deputies he thought the fines were taken care of when he was arrested in March for driving without a suspended license and giving a false name to law enforcement. He spent nearly two months in the Marion County Jail before being released in May with credit for time served, according to jail records.

Jones later changed his story and said he never paid the fines and was aware his license would be suspended if the fines were left unpaid. He was arrested and taken to jail, where he was released Thursday on $1,000 bond.
