Ocala man accused of breaking window of Ocklawaha home

Ross Cameron Mayer

An Ocala man was arrested Tuesday after he allegedly pounded on a door and broke a window at a home in Ocklawaha.

Ross Cameron Mayer, 36, was charged with criminal mischief with property damage of $1,000 or more after the incident, which happened shortly before midnight at a home on Malauka Pass Way.

A Marion County sheriff’s deputy who responded to the scene encountered Mayer, who was walking away. Mayer appeared to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol and was slurring his words. He raised his hands immediately when he saw the patrol car and began making incoherent statements, according to the sheriff’s office report.

When Mayer raised his hands, the deputy observed his left hand was bleeding. The deputy told Mayer to stop walking towards the patrol vehicle, and Mayer said no and continued advancing. Mayer was again told to stop, and this time he complied and was detained, the report said.

The victim told the deputy she was inside her home when she heard a person screaming outside. She said she went outside and saw Mayer screaming at her dog, which was in the fenced-in property she owns across the street. The victim asked Mayer what he was doing, and Mayer turned and ran towards her, according to the report.

The victim said she was scared and ran back inside her home. She said Mayer ran towards her home and began banging on her windows and door. He then punched the window on the front porch door, causing it to shatter. The deputy observed the damage and saw most of the broken glass was on the inside of the door. The victim assessed the damage at $1,000, the report said.

After being read his Miranda warning, Mayer invoked his fifth amendment right and refused to speak about the incident. He was taken to the Marion County Jail, where he remained held Friday on $2,000 bond.
