Pair of newlyweds jailed after nasty domestic spat at Ocala apartment

Davell K. Knight and Jessica S. Knight

A pair of newlyweds both ended up behind bars after police couldn’t determine which one was the aggressor in a domestic spat that left visible injuries on both parties.

Davell K. Knight, 35, and Jessica S. Knight, 39, were each charged with domestic battery after the incident, which happened early Thursday at their apartment in Ocala.

Davell told an Ocala Police officer that Jessica, his wife of six months, had stolen his vehicle after an argument. He said that during the argument, Jessica grabbed him, threw him on the bed, took his keys and left. He said by the time he was able to get his pants and shoes on, he saw the vehicle leaving the complex, according to the OPD report.

Jessica returned to scene as the officer was talking with Davell. She said Davell was the one who attacked her. She said she overheard him on the phone saying to an unknown person that he was waiting for Jessica’s Social Security check to be deposited into a bank account that was formerly a joint account but is now only in his name, the report said.

Jessica said she washed Davell’s clothes, made him dinner, and “made love” to him, and that he began acting “weird” and asking her to do things she wasn’t comfortable with. Jessica said she refused, and the conversation escalated when Davell said he wanted to leave, according to the report.

Jessica said she knew at that point he was going to the ATM to remove the money from her deposited social security check and she went to grab the keys to the vehicle, which is registered in his name. She said Davell grabbed her around her neck area and threw her on the bed. Jessica said she fought back and scratched him in order to get the keys, and she left with the vehicle, the report said.

A roommate who was in the room next door said heard a lot of commotion, yelling back and forth, slapping, and items being thrown against the wall, but she never saw anything, according to the report.

The officer observed marks on Jessica near her upper chest area, below her collarbone, and the beginnings of some bruising on her right arm. The officer noted that Davell had blood on his white pants and a fresh scratch mark on his right forearm that was still bleeding, the report said.

Jessica and Davell Knight are still being held in the Marion County Jail. Davell’s bond was set at $2,000, while Jessica’s bond was not set as of Saturday. They’re both scheduled to appear in Marion County Court on Aug. 16.
