Homeless man who gave Belleview Police officer false name nabbed in vehicle burglary

Briess Anthony Rose

A homeless found himself behind bars last week after Belleview Police officers responded to a call of a vehicle burglary in progress.

As officers responded to the location on SE 112th Street, they were advised that the suspect, later identified as 30-year-old Briess Anthony Rose, had left the area. He was located a short time later standing in front of a nearby storage shed and was detained in handcuffs, a police report says.

The vehicle’s 52-year-old owner said a neighbor contacted her and told her there was a man inside her vehicle. She said when went outside to investigate and saw Rose sitting inside her vehicle and going through her glove compartment, the report says.

The neighbor told officers that she had been outside her residence drinking coffee with her mother when she saw someone walk between the woman’s vehicle and another one that was parked nearby. She said she walked over to see what was happening when she saw Rose sitting inside the woman’s vehicle and “going through the compartments,” the report says.

Rose claimed he was writing down the vehicle’s identification number so he could purchase it. And he said he had talked to the owner about making payments on the vehicle, the report says.

Rose was then asked for his identification and he told officers his name was Brian Ski Prosser and provided a date of birth of Sept. 22, 1988. A computer checked failed to provide any information on that name and on the way to the Marion County Jail, Rose provided his real name and claimed that he was in the process of changing it, the report says, adding that a second check showed that Rose had an outstanding warrant.

Rose was charged with burglary of an unoccupied vehicle, giving a false name to a law enforcement officer and failure to appear in court on previous charges of petit theft and criminal mischief. He is due in court Sept. 25 and Oct. 1 to answer to the charges.
