Jaguar-driving woman charged with running down husband

Gloria Teanthia Dillard

An Ocala woman was arrested for allegedly running down her husband with a Jaguar SUV, although the victim told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy it didn’t happen.

Gloria Teanthia Dillard, 45, of 7700 NW Gainesville Road, was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon after the incident, which happened Monday afternoon near the intersection of NW Gainesville Road and W. Highway 326.

A witness said he was stopped at a red light when he saw the victim get out of the front passenger’s seat of the SUV and slam the door closed. The witness said the victim was walking on the south side of the road when the vehicle made a sharp right-hand turn and accelerate while traffic was still stopped at the light, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The witness said the vehicle hopped the curb and struck the victim, causing him to fall to the ground. He said the victim got up, opened the driver’s door and put both hands inside the vehicle, but he couldn’t see what the victim was doing, the report said.

The witness said the victim then walked south on NW Gainesville Road. He said the vehicle hit the curb so hard that it received damage to the front passenger side. The witness positively identified Dillard as the driver, according to the report.

Dillard told the deputy she went off the road and hit something, causing the front passenger-side tire to go flat. She said she never hit the victim with the vehicle and that the victim never put his hands on her. The observed that the vehicle’s front passenger-side tire was flat, the report said.

The victim said Dillard did not hit him and that nothing happened. He was upset and uncooperative, according to the report.

Dillard was taken to the Marion County Jail, where she was released Tuesday on $1,000 bond. She’ll appear in Marion County Court on Oct. 15.
