Umatilla man accused of strangling and kicking woman

Scott Kevin McFalls

An Umatilla man was arrested recently after he allegedly choked and kicked a woman after screaming and yelling at her for days for no reason.

Scott Kevin McFalls, 30, was charged with domestic battery by strangulation and simple domestic battery. He also had an active warrant in another county.

A Marion County sheriff’s deputy responded to McFalls’ residence after a man reported that he received a phone call from the victim saying that McFalls had choked her and kicked her in the back. The deputy met the victim outside in the driveway and she was scared, shaken and crying, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The victim said McFalls, who had spent the previous few screaming and yelling at her for no reason, came at her in an aggressive manner, grabbed her by the throat and squeezed his hands around her throat to the point where it impeded her breathing. She said he then released his tight grip, threw her to the ground and kicked her in the back region, the report said.

The victim said when McFalls released his hands from her throat, his hand struck her in the mouth, causing a small laceration on her upper lift. The deputy observed a large red abrasion on the victim’s lower back and a small laceration on her upper lift. The deputy did not see any physical injuries on her throat region, according to the report.

The deputy immediately detained McFalls because of the active warrant. McFalls first said he and the victim had a verbal altercation and that nothing physical happened. He then said the victim straddled him while he was lying in bed and he pushed her off him. McFalls said at no time did he kick the victim and place his hands around her neck.

McFalls was taken to the Marion County Jail, where he was released Thursday on $4,000 bond. He’ll appear in Marion County Court on March 3.
