Knife-waving Ocala man jailed after spat with woman over money

Geoffrey Todd Holgate

An Ocala man was arrested Monday for allegedly waving a knife at a woman during an argument over money.

Geoffrey Todd Holgate, 46, was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill after the incident, which happened Sunday. The victim told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy that Holgate asked her for money. She said when she told him she wasn’t going to give him money for drugs, he got irate and started yelling at her, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The victim said Holgate told her she was going to wire her mouth shut and then beat her up. She said Holgate then took out his knife and started stabbing the air towards her legs. The victim said she was in fear of Holgate and that the knife came within inches of hitting her leg, the report said.

The victim’s juvenile son said he was sitting next to his mother when the incident took place. He said Holgate and his mother were arguing about money when Holgate grabbed his knife and made stabbing motions towards his mother about four or five times. The victim’s son described the knife as all black with red lines on it, according to the report.

The victim’s mother told the deputy that the victim’s son texted her to get to the residence quickly. She said Holgate was in the process of leaving when she arrived. The victim’s mother said Holgate and the victim were still yelling at each other and that is all she saw of the incident, but the victim’s son told her everything that had taken place, the report said.

The deputy spoke by phone with Holgate, who said the deputy had already gotten the victim’s side of the story and he didn’t feel the need to give his. Holgate said if the victim just gave him the money that is his, this will all be over, according to the report.

Holgate, who fled the scene after the incident, was arrested at his house the next day and taken to the Marion County Jail, where he’s being held without bond. He’ll appear in Marion County Court on April 14.
