47 test positive for COVID-19 in Marion County as state soars past 12,000 cases

Marion County now has 47 confirmed cases of the Coronavirus.

The patients – 26 women and 21 men – range in age from 19 to 88. Three are non-residents and six people remain hospitalized.

Thirty-two of the patients live in Ocala, with others living in Summerfield (6), Dunnellon (2), Ocklawaha (1) and Anthony (1).

So far, 996 people have been tested in Marion County, with 949 negative results. Another 155 are awaiting testing.

Twenty-four of those who tested positive reported traveling abroad and domestically recently to Ireland, United Kingdom, Germany, Puerto Rico, Turkey, Mexico, Wisconsin, Texas, South Carolina, New York, New Jersey, Georgia, New Hampshire and other destinations in Florida. It’s still unknown if four other patients have a recent travel history.

All told, Florida is reporting 12,151 cases of COVID-19, with 11,764 of those people being residents of the Sunshine State. There have been 281 deaths and 1,490 patients are being treated in hospitals across the state.
