Ocala man jailed for third time in three weeks

James Kenneth Aspinwall

An Ocala man was arrested for the third time in less than three weeks on Tuesday, this time after being caught with methamphetamine in his vehicle.

James Kenneth Aspinall, 56, of 5671 SW 55th Ave., was charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug equipment and violating domestic violence bond conditions. Aspinall was previously jailed July 28-31 on a domestic battery charge, and Aug. 1-8 for violating pretrial release conditions.

At around 6 p.m. Tuesday, a Marion County sheriff’s deputy observed a silver Mazda SUV that matched the description of a vehicle he had probable cause on the registered owner for violation of domestic violence bond conditions, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The deputy confirmed the vehicle was owned by Aspinwall and conducted a traffic stop at SW Highway 200 o the southbound ramp to Interstate 75. Aspinwall was placed under arrest and an inventory search of the vehicle was conducted, the report said.

The deputy lifted the driver-side floor mat and found a clear baggie containing a crystal-like substance. Another baggie was observed in plain view above the driver-side visor and it also contained a crystal-like substance. Another deputy found a scale in the back compartment of the vehicle with white crystal-like residue on it. The substance in both bags and on the scale tested positive for methamphetamine, according to the report.

After being read his Miranda warning, Aspinall denied the substances were, saying his only belongings were in the rear of the vehicle. Told about the scale in the back, he denied it was his, the report said.

  1. Aspinall is being held in the Marion County Jail on $3,000 bond and will appear in Marion County Court on Oct. 1.
