73-year-old pedestrian hospitalized after being struck by car in Marion County

A 73-year-old pedestrian was critically injured on Wednesday afternoon after he was struck by a vehicle near an intersection in Marion County.

The Florida Highway Patrol incident report stated that on Wednesday, at approximately 2:40 p.m., an 88-year-old man from Silver Springs was traveling northbound on SE 58th Avenue, near the intersection of SE 28th Street, in a sedan.

At the same time, the 73-year-old man from Ocala was attempting to cross the northbound lanes of SE 58th Avenue from the east side of the roadway, according to FHP.

The FHP report stated that the sedan was traveling in the inside lane of SE 58th Avenue when it struck the pedestrian. After the collision, the pedestrian was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

The sedan’s driver was not injured in the crash.

The names of the individuals involved in the accident were not released by the Florida Highway Patrol.
