For the second time in less than a year, the Good Time Bar & Grill in Belleview was forced to temporarily shut down due to the presence of roach activity.

The Good Time Bar & Grill, which is located at 8921 E Highway 25 in Belleview, was temporarily closed on Thursday, July 6 after a health inspector found a total of 16 violations, including three that were considered high priority, according to a report that was filed with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.

The report stated that two live roaches were found in the hinges of the dry storage cabinets in the kitchen, two live roaches were on the underside of a wooden table behind the bar, three live roaches were in a binder filled with paperwork that was previously stored in the dry storage cabinet, and two live roaches were under the bar.

Several dead roaches were spotted floor under a wooden table near the kitchen and under the bar. The health inspector noted that an on-duty manager vacuumed up the dead roaches.

Roach excrement was observed near the door hinges of the dry storage cabinets in the kitchen, on the ends of wood under the bar, and on a wooden table near the kitchen. In addition to the roach-related high priority violations, the restaurant was cited for storing cheese at a temperature greater than 41 degrees Fahrenheit.

The health inspector noted that food items (hotdogs, turkey, and ham) were observed in the restaurant that had been opened on Tuesday, July 4, but no date was marked on the packaging to indicate when it was opened. The restaurant was also cited for failing to properly track/mark the number of days that ready-to-eat food was held at refrigeration temperatures prior to being placed in the freezer.

In the report, the health inspector cited additional basic violations that included several employees eating and drinking in a food preparation area, unwashed fruits and vegetables being stored with ready-to-eat foods, and an employee was observed preparing food without a hair restraint.

The restaurant remained closed after the initial inspection, and the health inspector returned on Friday, July 7. During the follow-up inspection, the report stated that four dead roaches were found in a cabinet inside the kitchen. After the dead roaches were removed, no further evidence of roach activity was discovered, and the restaurant was permitted to reopen.

Roach activity also forced the Good Time Bar & Grill to temporarily close its doors on October 18, 2022.
