Firefighters rescue cyclist near Santos Trailhead

A cyclist riding near the Santos Trailhead in Ocala was rescued by firefighters on Thursday afternoon after he experienced a medical emergency.

At around 1 p.m., Marion County Fire Rescue units were dispatched to the Santos Trailhead in reference to a man who was feeling weak and having difficulty breathing. A citizen who had been riding with the cyclist called 911 and reported that they were approximately six miles from the trailhead, according to MCFR.

Two MCFR units arrived at the trailhead shortly before 1:20 p.m. The firefighters deployed ATVs with a trailer and basket, and they quickly headed to the male cyclist.

When firefighters reached the man, they prepared him for transport, and he was taken to a local hospital in stable condition.

Two of the firefighters volunteered to ride the couple’s bicycles back to the trailhead.

In a social media post, Marion County Fire Rescue thanked the county’s commissioners and administration for providing the equipment that is needed to care for the local community.
