A 6-year-old golfer will play in the 2023 U.S. Kids Golf World Championships next week after winning a qualifying tournament in Ocala earlier this year.

Robert “Lewis” Towell will head to the Midland Country Club in Texas on Thursday, August 3 through Saturday, August 5 to compete with dozens of other children his age for a chance to win a world championship.

Towell, his sister, and his parents, who are from Valdosta, Georgia, traveled down to the Ocala Golf Club (3130 E Silver Springs Blvd) earlier this year to compete in a local championship.

The event in Ocala featured dozens of competitors across all age groups. Three boys, including Towell, competed in the Boys 6 & Under age bracket, with Towell emerging victorious.

To qualify for the 2023 U.S. Kids Golf World Championships, golfers must compete in four tournaments and shoot under 45 on a nine-hole course. Lewis, who has played in multiple tournaments, scored under 45 in each instance, once scoring 40.

Towell will compete against at least 66 other boy golfers who are 6-years-old and younger. The field features golfers from multiple countries, including India, Argentina, Mexico, Colombia, Russia, and Canada, among several others.
