The first Family FOCUS session of the 2023-2024 school year, titled “Take a Walk Down MCPS Lane,” will be held at Lake Weir High School on September 9

The school district will offer Family FOCUS (Families need Ongoing Communication, Useful resources, and Support) sessions at several local high schools throughout the school year, and these events will provide help and services to parents, families, guardians, and students with an abundance of school and community resources.

Additional Family FOCUS sessions, which are a part of the school district’s strategic plan, will take place on select Saturday mornings with themed approaches including:

  • “Fall Festival of Learning” on Saturday, November 4, 2023, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at West Port High School (3733 SW 80th Avenue in Ocala). Attendees will learn new skills and concepts to support learning at home and on the go.
  • “Together Toward Tomorrow” on Saturday, January 27, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Forest High School (5000 SE Maricamp Road in Ocala). Attendees will learn how to help their child prepare for their next transition.
  • “Catch the Summer Wave” on Saturday, April 6, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Dunnellon High School (10055 SW 180th Avenue Road in Dunnellon). Attendees will learn fun ways to keep their child engaged in learning over the summer months.

These sessions will provide free childcare, community and district resources, entertainment, and giveaways. In addition, free transportation is available for anyone five years of age and older, and each child will receive free books to take home.
