Marion Senior Services reaches 50-year milestone

Marion Senior Services, an organization that provides supportive care services to elderly, disabled, and disadvantaged residents of Marion County, celebrated its 50th anniversary this week.

“For 50 years, Marion Senior Services, with the support of the community, has honored our elders by providing resources to maintain their independence,” stated the organization in a press release on Thursday.

Marion Senior Services added that its team of dedicated professions is like “family,” and the team members help their clients find new relationships and healthier habits to better manage daily living activities.

The organization stated that its history is “rich and full of memories – laughs, cries, hard decisions, moments of celebrations, and happy dances.” Starting with $100 to provide 13 meals, Marion Senior Services now manages a $7.5 million budget with an array of services to empower older adults to live active and healthier lives.

Marion Senior Services serves as the lead agency and service provider for contracts, both state and federally funded, to provide services to the elderly and disabled. These services are provided through specific “contracts” for service with Elder Options, which is the regional Area Agency on Aging.

In addition, Marion Senior Services is also the designated Community Transportation Coordinator and provides public paratransit service to elderly, disabled, and low-income individuals throughout Marion County. The organization is able to provide this service through contracts with the Commission for Transportation Disadvantaged, Florida Department of Transportation, and SunTran.

With 50 years of proudly serving Marion County residents, Marion Senior Services concluded Thursday’s press release by stating that the organization is looking forward to the next 50 years.
