Marion County school bus crashes into tree after driver experiences medical emergency

A Marion County school bus crashed into a tree on Tuesday afternoon after the driver suffered a medical emergency.

At around 1:50 p.m., the school bus was traveling westbound on County Road 467 in Marion County. According to the Florida Highway Patrol incident report, the driver experienced a medical emergency when the school bus was near the intersection of SE 7th Avenue Road.

FHP stated that the school bus proceeded to veer off the roadway where it collided with a tree.

There were no students on board the school bus at the time of the crash.

The driver and sole occupant of the school bus, identified in the report as a 40-year-old woman from Hawthorne, was transported to a local hospital in serious condition.

The school bus driver’s name was not released by the Florida Highway Patrol.
