Marion County Fire Rescue units were dispatched to On Top of the World in Ocala on Wednesday afternoon after a large wildfire ignited in the area.
Shortly after 4 p.m., multiple 911 callers reported that the wildfire was growing larger by the minute. Firefighters from Marion County Fire Rescue’s Friendship Fire Station #21 arrived on scene at 4:22 p.m., and they observed a large fire that was being “fueled by wind,” according to MCFR.
Additional assistance was requested from Florida Forest Service units, and they immediately responded to the location and struck a second alarm. The Marion County Sheriff’s Office Air-1 unit was also deployed to the area to give an aerial view of the blaze.
MCFR stated on social media that the response was well coordinated and involved three command officers, three engines, four grass trucks, one tanker, one rescue unit, air support, and numerous forestry units.
“This collective effort underscores the commitment and readiness of our teams to protect our community,” stated MCFR in the social media post on Thursday.
Firefighters combated the flames for several hours, and the fire was successfully brought under control by 7:10 p.m. According to MCFR, over 60 acres of land was affected by the wildfire.
There were no injuries reported.
MCFR concluded the social media post by extending its deepest gratitude to those who helped manage this incident. “Your courage and teamwork have once again ensured the safety of our community. Stay safe, Marion County!”
