Shooting during North Marion Middle School awards ceremony leaves 1 injured

Law enforcement authorities are currently investigating a shooting that occurred during an awards ceremony at North Marion Middle School earlier this evening.

Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputies are at the scene of North Marion Middle School (2085 W Hwy 329) in Citra, where they say that one individual was shot earlier today.

According to MCSO, the shooting incident involved two adult males. One adult male was transported to a local hospital with gunshot wounds.

The other adult male, who has not been identified by police, was taken into custody for causing the shooting, according to MCSO.

A witness at the scene says they believe the dispute was between a step-father and father who were at the ceremony for a student.

Detectives say there is “no further danger to the public” at this point.

According to MCSO, a scheduled awards ceremony at the school has been canceled as a result of the shooting.
