A Micanopy man who was wanted by law enforcement found himself behind bars after a recent high-speed pursuit in Marion County.
A Marion County sheriff’s deputy responded to the Circle K at Hwy. 318 and Hwy. 441 after receiving information about 53-year-old Steven Allen Thomas being at the minimart. The deputy was told that Thomas was in a blue vehicle parked at the gas pump, a sheriff’s office report states.
When the deputy identified Thomas, she activated her emergency lights but he failed to stop and a pursuit began. A short time later, Thomas crashed into a fence and attempted to flee on foot, the report says.
The deputy chased Thomas and ultimately utilized her Taser to apprehend him. They searched his vehicle and found methamphetamine and cocaine, according to the report.
Thomas was placed under arrested and transported to the Marion County Jail, where he was charged with fleeing/eluding a law enforcement officer with lights and siren active, failing to register a motor vehicle, possession of cocaine, possession of methamphetamine, operating a motor vehicle without a valid license, resisting an officer without violence, battery, obstructing justice/tampering in a first-degree felony proceeding and unarmed burglary of a conveyance. His bond also was revoked on previous charges of assault with a deadly weapon, resisting an officer without violence, battery and possession of a weapon or ammunition by a convicted felon. He was being held in the jail and is due in court March 9 at 9 a.m. to answer to the charges, records show.
