Thieves target Summerfield Wal-Mart, steal items ranging from fertility drug to stereo equipment

A Marion County Sheriff’s deputy was called to the Summerfield Wal-Mart Tuesday after thieves stole $740 worth of merchandise.

In the first incident, a loss prevention officer at the store, located at 17961 S. Hwy 27/441, said a man came in by himself Monday and placed items worth $302.37 in his shopping cart. He left through the garden center and was soon joined in the parking lot by a white male who used the same exit, a sheriff’s office report states, adding that both men sat in a dark-colored, four-door vehicle in the parking lot for an extended period of time before leaving.

The items taken included a fertility drug, a sound system, a waste basket and DVDs and Blu-ray discs.

In the second incident, also on Monday, a man entered the store alone and gathered $201.24 worth of merchandise. He also left through the garden center and was joined by a black male who left through the same exit. Like in the earlier case, the men sat in a dark-colored, four-door vehicle in the parking lot for some time before leaving.

The items taken were: a shaver, hair clippers, the antihistamine drug Zantac, an 18-gallon tote and Blackweb speakers.

In the third incident, which took place Tuesday, an employee said a man left the store with several items without paying for them. When the employee confronted the man in the parking lot, he got into a green pickup truck and drove away, leaving behind the items valued at $237.15. A loss prevention officer told the deputy that he still wants to prosecute the man if he’s caught, since he left the store without paying for the items.

The man’s cart contained a cooler, LED lights, a drink container and other miscellaneous items, which were taken back inside the store.
