Crying Ocklawaha man charged with battering pregnant woman

Jacob Christopher Clyburn

An Ocklawaha man is being held in the Marion County Jail after he allegedly got into a physical altercation with a pregnant woman.

Jacob Christopher Clyburn, 30, was charged with aggravated domestic battery of a pregnant woman as a result of the incident, which happened last week.

A Marion County sheriff’s deputy responded last Wednesday to a domestic disturbance call on SE 176th Court Road. He was met by Clyburn, who was visibly upset and had been crying. Clyburn said he lost his temper and punched a wall. He said he had been arguing with the victim but did not admit to getting physical with her, a sheriff’s office report states.

The victim, who is in the third trimester of her pregnancy, said Clyburn had been up all night and wanted her to lay in bed with him. The argument started when she refused, and Clyburn swore at her. The victim told Clyburn she was going to leave and he became angrier. The victim said Clyburn grabbed her by the arms and shook her, but he did not strike her and she didn’t want him arrested. The deputy observed red marks on the victim’s arms consistent with her statement.

A witness who was in the home said she heard Clyburn and the victim arguing in their room and yelled for them to stop or she would call law enforcement. She said she opened the bedroom door and saw Clyburn pushing the victim, and she called 911. While on the phone, she returned to check on the victim and she found the door closed again and the couple still arguing. Clyburn was yelling profanities, while the victim was telling him to get off her and said, “You’re going to kill my baby,” the report says.

Clyburn was arrested without incident and is being held on $2,500 bond. His next date in Marion County Court is Feb. 5.
