Scorned Dunnellon woman jailed after jealousy-fueled rampage

Christy Hurlman

A Dunnellon woman was charged with simple domestic battery recently after going on a rampage when she found photos and text messages between the victim and another woman on his cell phone.

Christy Jeannine Hurlman, 40, told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy that she left the house on SW 195th Avenue while the victim was sleeping after she found the messages and photos. When she returned and confronted him, a verbal argument ensued. She said she went into the garage and tried to push his motorcycle into the garage wall because she was angry and wanted to damage his items and “hurt” him.

Hurlman said she went back into the house, where they argued some more. She then went into the kitchen, grabbed a crockpot full of food and threw it on the kitchen floor. She said she also threw a coffee pot on the floor.

Hurlman told the deputy that the victim came into the kitchen after hearing the commotion, grabbed her, and said, “What are you doing? What are you doing?” She said they started arguing again and she “got in his face” while they were arguing. She said he pushed her chest with his hands to push her away, and that she pushed him back, causing him to fall back against the wall. Hurlman told the deputy the victim has never hit her before because “he knows how I am.”

The victim told the deputy that the couple had been arguing when she threw the crockpot and coffee pot on the floor. He said she pushed him and struck him on the side of his face several times. The deputy did not observe any injuries on him but did observe large puddles of soup, coffee, and broken shards of dishes and glassware on the kitchen floor.

Hurlman was taken to the Marion County Jail, where she was released on $1,000 bond. She’ll appear in Marion County Court on March 26.
